Moving Sucks.

We know! That’s why we made this page. We’ve collected all the links and hook-ups to help make your move as smooth as possible. You’re welcome 🙂

Step One

Government & Address Updates

01

Change Your Address

Canada Post mail forwarding. Post-date your move. Worth every penny.

02

Notify Key Senders Directly

Don’t rely on forwarding forever. Update your address directly with banks, subscriptions, and important senders so nothing falls through the cracks.

  Pro Tip
03

ICBC / Driver’s Licence

BC law requires an address update within 10 days of moving. Don’t get caught out.

04

Canada Revenue Agency

Update your CRA address to avoid interest you didn’t need to pay.

05

CRA Pre-Authorized Payments

Separate from your address — make sure pre-authorized debit arrangements in My Account aren’t disrupted mid-move.

06

Elections BC

Keep your voter registration current so your ballot goes to the right riding.

Step Two

Utilities & Home Services

07

BC Hydro

Pre-order your electricity transfer on or before possession day so the lights are on when you arrive.

08

FortisBC (Gas)

Gas stove, fireplace, or furnace? Let Fortis know before you move in.

09

Telus Optik TV

Easy to forget — TV service is a separate transfer from internet. Book it at the same time so you’re not calling in a panic on move-in day.

10

TV / Internet

Don’t go a day without WiFi. Book your transfer early — installers book up fast. We use Telus.

11

Strata / HOA

Moving into a strata? Notify the property manager with your new owner info, get the move-in rules in writing, and confirm elevator or freight access.

  If Applicable
12

Property Insurance

Get coverage in place for completion day — no gap. Contact our go-to: Chloe at JM Insurance.

Step Three

Finance, Employment & Personal Updates

13

Bank & Personal Contacts

Update your address with your bank, credit cards, and yes — grandma. Call them, don’t just update an app.

  Reminder
14

Employer HR

Not just for mail — update HR so your T4 and direct deposit details are accurate. A missed T4 can mean a delayed tax return.

  Easy to Miss
15

Life & Auto Insurance

Home insurance is on the list — but car and life policies are often missed. Your premium and coverage may change based on your new address.

16

Doctor & Dentist

Update your address with your GP, dentist, and any specialists. Easy to forget, annoying when appointment reminders go to the wrong place.

  Reminder
17

Cell Phone

Update your billing address with your carrier so bills actually find you.

18

Amazon & Online Shopping

Default shipping addresses catch people off guard constantly. Update Amazon, subscription boxes, and your go-to online stores before your first post-move order.

  Easy to Miss
19

Gym Membership

Especially if switching locations — update your home club and billing address. Some gyms let you transfer your membership to a closer location.

Step Four

Moving Logistics

20

Moving Companies

Hire movers. It’s worth it. These two come recommended by clients who survived the process.

21

Book the Elevator

If your building has an elevator, book it for move day — most buildings have only one window per floor per day. Don’t find out the hard way.

  Reminder
22

Parking / City Permits

In Port Moody or Coquitlam, large moving trucks sometimes need a temporary no-parking permit from the city. Check a week before move day.

  Check Early
23

Moving Boxes

Rent reusable boxes instead of buying cardboard. Better for the planet, easier on your back.

24

Cleaners

Book a cleaner for move-in AND move-out. Our go-to: Obsession Cleaning Services — 604.803.8026.

Step Five

Possession Day Essentials

25

Rekey the Locks

Always rekey or change the locks on possession day. Previous owners, contractors, cleaners — they all had keys. Don’t assume they handed them all back.

  Highly Recommended
26

Take Meter Readings

Photo your hydro and gas meters on possession day, timestamped. Protects you from being billed for usage before you moved in. Takes 2 minutes.

  Smart Move
27

Label Your Breaker Panel

First thing to do when you move in. You’ll thank yourself the first time something trips — or when you need to flip a breaker safely.

  First Day Job
28

Keys

We handle key collection and handoff on possession day. You won’t be standing on the doorstep wondering what’s happening.

29

Lawyers / Notary

Expect contact from your lawyer 7–12 days before closing. If you haven’t heard from them by then, call us.

The Fun Stuff

30

Don’t Get Hangry

Order food before you’re running on fumes. Moving on an empty stomach is everyone’s worst day.

31

Housewarming Party

We’ve got you covered. Just don’t forget to invite us — we’ll bring something good.
