Check out our choice Top SkyTrain Stations in Metro Vancouver
The SkyTrain is much more than a means of transportation; it is part of the culture and lifestyle of Vancouver. With the recent completion of the Evergreen Extension of the Millennium Line, Vancouver is now home to the longest automated train system in the world. With that fact in mind, there are many stations to choose from to form our list of the Top SkyTrain Stations in Metro Vancouver. We’ll take into account accessibility, design of the station, and things to do within the area. Now let’s get to it!
#5 – Sapperton Station
Number five on our list of Top SkyTrain Stations is Sapperton Station in New Westminster. As far as station design goes, this is one of my favourites. Each station along the Millennium Line has a unique design. The curvature design of the canopy over each platform is very aesthetically pleasing and fits in with the industrial area along the Fraser River. Additionally, the overpass from the station to the growing Brewery District is a beautiful feat of infrastructure. Across this overpass is Royal Columbian Hospital, Browns Social House, Safeway, and some of the hottest real estate in New West.
#4 – Moody Centre Station
Moody Centre Station comes in at number 4 on our list of Top SkyTrain Stations. As part of the brand New Evergreen Line, this station contains lots of exposed wood in the design, as well as a donated aboriginal canoe. The only down side of the Evergreen Line is that all of the stations are almost the same design. The area around Moody Centre is growing, and contains our favourite 4 craft breweries in the area, Rocky Point Park (with the best ice cream in the city), Pajo’s Fish and Chips, and the Boathouse.
#3 – Yaletown-Roundhouse Station
The first inclusion from the Canada Line on the list of the top SkyTrain Stations. One of the true subway style stations along the SkyTrain system, this station takes you right into the heart of Yaletown and the shores of False Creek. Grab a drink or a bite to eat at many of the cafes and restaurants along the False Creek Seawall, and enjoy the vibes of Yaletown. Centrally located on the downtown peninsula, it is just a quick trip back to Granville Street or Gastown to take in some nightlife.
#2 – Brentwood Town Centre
From a design standpoint alone, this would be number one on the list of Top SkyTrain Stations. The so called “UFO Station” straddles the Lougheed Highway, and offers access to what remains of Brentwood Mall, as well as the new SOLO District towers. The only downside is that there is not too much to do in this area. Yet. However, it has been selected by the City of Burnaby for rapid development, so expect Brentwood to be one of the hot spots of Metro Vancouver in coming years.
#1 – Commerical-Broadway Station
Commercial-Broadway Station serves as the junction for the Millennium and Expo lines, and is one of the few stations in the world with the same line running through it twice, on two different levels. Although transit oriented development hasn’t happened in the area yet, official zoning has been improved to increase densification. For the area surrounding the station, it’s hard to beat the unique location that is Commerical Drive, and East Broadway. A true slice of the city without having to venture downtown!
